Scene Around Town: Miami Lakers’ Views

Community By Linda Trischitta, Editor Wednesday, June 5, 2024

Rob Waterfield occasionally shares his nature photos with readers of The Miami Laker that he takes while working as a part-time, first tee starter at the Miami Lakes Golf Club. The dragonfly, above, is one of the swarms of the graceful insects that appeared in town over Memorial Day weekend.

Dragonflies can consume hundreds of mosquitoes per day, according to Smithsonian Magazine. They may fly around humans but mean no harm. Unlike mosquitoes and other bugs, they don’t sting and won’t bite us unless they are scared. For more information go to WorldDragonFly.org.

Waterfield captured the image of this creature with his Apple iPhone 15.

“There were literally hundreds within view around me and I’ve been seeing them for days now,” Waterfield said. “I took a shot and it didn’t turn out too bad.”
