Several ML area students compete in Miami Herald’s 77th annual Spelling Bee

The Miami Herald’s 77th Annual Spelling Bee for Miami-Dade and Monroe counties had a repeat winner in Vasundra Govindarajan, a seventh grader from Archimedean Middle Conservatory, who is heading to the 90th Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington from May 28 to June 4.

Govindarajan’s winning word was “boiserie.” Second place went to Kyler Pace from Ransom Everglades Middle School and third place to Lauren Garcia-Stille from Gulliver Academy.  

Local students who participated in the competition held at Jungle Island on Tuesday, March 7 were Rafael de la Cova and Mariel Dorismond from Our Lady of the Lakes, Leana Lee and Savannah Hernandez from Miami Lakes K-8 Center, Abel Gonzales from Mater Academy Charter Middle School and Sebastian Valenzuela from Mater Lakes  Academy Middle School.
