South Florida leaders visit Washington, DC

     Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sen. René Garcia and Miami-Dade County Public Schools Board Member Roberto Alonso, whose districts include Miami Lakes, visited Washington, DC on Sept. 18.

     The purpose of the trip was to promote topics including the county’s business interests, advancing economic opportunities in the aerospace industry and progress in education, Garcia’s office said.

     Garcia is at left in the photo above with Alonso and Gwen Graham, assistant secretary in the Office of Legislation and Congressional Affairs at the U.S. Department of Education.

    The three leaders have ties to Hialeah and Miami Lakes.

     Among other officials Garcia and Alonso met with were U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Miami and U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Naples; U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Coral Springs; U.S. Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Miami; U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Doral and U.S. Rep. Greg Steube, R-Sarasota
