St. Thomas softball players named to Sun All-Conference

The Sun Conference named several members of St. Thomas University’s softball team to its All-Conference Team, following stellar performances this past season on the diamond and in the classroom.

Players honored were senior outfielder Jessica Matias and freshman infielder Melody Grafals who were named First Team All-Conference. 

Bobcats junior pitcher Jessica Castiglione was named an honorable mention All-Conference and she also won The Sun Conference Champions of Character Award.

Senior Carson Catasus, senior Cristina Sacramento, and sophomore Michelle Murch were all named to the Academic All-Conference team.

Matias recorded a .336 batting average with a team-best 21 stolen bases, six doubles, three triples, 11 RBI and 29 runs scored.

Grafals batted .347 with a team-high 23 RBI, seven doubles and a .459 slugging percentage.
Castiglione went 5-5 WITH a 1.32 ERA and 39 strikeouts. 

Off the field, she earned the Champions of Character Award with a display of outstanding leadership skills and by serving the community in a compassionate way, all in accordance with the NAIA Champions of Character core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and service leadership.

Catasus, Sacramento and Murch earned All-Academic honors with outstanding GPA’s.

Catasus holds a GPA of 3.95 while double majoring in Biology and Chemistry. Majoring in Criminal Justice, Sacramento has a GPA of 3.71 and Murch has registered a 3.33 GPA in sports administration, Murch was also recently selected as one of the 16 new representatives to the Association of Student-Athletes for the NAIA.
