Town to try 4th time in All-America City contest

Community Thursday, June 3, 2021

The Town of Miami Lakes is making a fourth attempt to win the National Civic League’s All-America City Award.

Tune in online at 11 a.m. on June 9 to watch officials and business leaders make the pitch for why the town deserves the recognition.

The winner must convince the judges that their municipality “leverages civic engagement, collaboration, inclusiveness and innovation to success- fully address local issues,” the organization says on its website.

The end goal is building equitable and resilient communities, the organization says.

Miami Lakes has some competition from South Florida neighbors: Fort Lauderdale and Miramar are also finalists this year.

The other finalists are: Barberton, Ohio; Belleville, Wash.; Carlisle, Pa.; Dallas, Texas; El Paso, Texas; Englewood, Colo.; Evanston, Ill.; Fitzgerald, Ga.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Kansas City, Mo.; Livermore, Calif.; Morrisville, N.C.; Richmond, Va.; Southfield, Mich.; Spokane, Wash.; Sumter, S.C. and Wheat Ridge, Colo.
