American Senior High School walked away with two awards in the Southeastern Consortium for Mathematics and Science Engineering (SECME) and Advanced Academic Programs for Science, Technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) competition that provides opportunities for students, educators and parents to engage in STEM activities with local colleges, universities and engineering partners.

Gloria Chyr recently won first place in the SECME Olympiad Essay competition, and  Luis Diaz won the 2014 SECME Principal of the Year Award.

Diaz was selected among a group of educators for his strong tradition of leadership and contributions to the school and the SECME’s National Office Education Program Division.

SECME, a premier primary and secondary (K-12) alliance, links engineering universities, school systems, and corporate/government investors.
