The Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative, located at 14125 NW 80th Avenue Miami Lakes, is seeking national participation and support in its summer awareness campaign to draw attention to breast cancer and early detection. In conjunction with National Pink Day on Tuesday, June 23, the organization is asking that everyone wear pink and post at least one photo with the hash tag #NationalPinkDayWBHI to the Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative Facebook page www.facebook.com/thewbhi, or to their personal Twitter, Instagram or other favorite social media platform.

Each year, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite remarkable advances in treatment and a greater focus on prevention, breast cancer remains one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers among American women, and it remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths.

In South Florida, the Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative’s recognition of National Pink Day also includes the Color Your Selfie Pink for a Cause. The event also takes place on Tuesday, June 23, at both of the South Florida Bloomingdale’s locations (Aventura Mall and The Falls Shopping Center) from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Level One of the stores. Appetizers and drinks will be served for attending guests.

Bloomingdale’s is donating 10 percent of sales during the events to the Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative organization to support its mission to educate women about the importance of breast & heart health through its door-to-door outreach campaigns. The events are free and open to the public, and will provide attendees the opportunity to learn all about the Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative and celebrate National Pink Day by coloring your selfie pink with the hash tag #NationalPinkDayWBHI.

Participants will be urged to apply pink lipstick, blush and more and post to social media. Bloomingdale’s will draw one lucky selfie post for a grand prize cosmetics basket as part of the event. According to Andrea Ivory, Executive Director of the Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative, the event is to serve as a catalyst for awareness.

“We are so grateful to Bloomingdale’s for their support of the Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative and our mission,” said Ivory. “By joining us on National Pink Day, either at one of the Bloomingdale’s locations or just by posting to social media in Pink with our hash tag, people can help us trumpet the importance of a proactive approach to diagnosis and treatment!”

Through the support of the community, donations and volunteerism, the Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative reaches an average of 11,000 homes annually and provide breast and heart health education, access to mammograms and screenings for heart disease to women whose disease might otherwise go undetected.
