American Senior High School (ASHS) senior Stephanie Ruiz has earned The Gates Scholarship, a reward given to students that covers the full cost of attendance that’s not already covered by other types of financial aid. The scholarship, along with the Florida Academic Scholar Award, the Woman of Tomorrow Scholarship and the George W. Jenkins Scholarship, allows Ruiz to attend her dream school, University of Miami (UM), on a full ride.

“I am excited moving forward to college!,” exclaimed Ruiz. “I'm looking forward to starting my path into my dream career.”

The feat did not come easy though; not only does Ruiz have a weighted GPA of 5.279, she’s also the vice president of ASHS’s Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) chapter, the vice president of the National Honor Society, secretary of the Art Club and the secretary for the Women of Tomorrow club. Ruiz plans on majoring in accounting and business management while minoring in finance during her time at UM.

“My dream job is to become a Chief Financial Officer at a successful corporation someday,” Ruiz said.

With hard work and determination, there’s no doubt Ruiz’s dream will someday come true. For more information about the Gates Scholarship, visit www.thegatesscholarship.org.
