In Memoriam: Longtime resident Alan Robert Wilson

Alan Robert Wilson, a 27-year resident of Miami Lakes, passed away on Thursday, February 1 at the age of 71. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts to Albert R. and Mary Rita Doucette Wilson, he was raised in the Newburyport area and graduated Newburyport High School with the class of 1964.

Wilson was a retired engineer, who spent many years traveling around the United States and South America. He led and worked alongside repair and rebuilding crews servicing large hydroelectric power generation stations like the Hoover Dam and Niagara Falls.

Wilson was an avid sailor, licensed United States Coast Guard captain and cooking enthusiast. Wilson could be found entertaining at home or on board his boat “Imagine” at Dinner Key Marina in Coconut Grove, where he and his wife Martha made friendships to last a lifetime.

Many of his happiest moments were spent with friends traveling on “Imagine” to the Keys, the Abaco’s, Bimini and other Bahamian islands. He also enjoyed going back to New England to get together with his family and lifelong friends.  Cooking was a passion of his and he loved experimenting with all types of recipes.  Everyone looked forward to his famous biscotti at Christmas time.

He was lucky to have lived his life on his terms, doing what made him happiest and doing so when he wanted to.  A life well lived.

Wilson’s grandchildren Ethan, Gabriel, Luke and Lauren were the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of Wilson’s kind spirit, passion for knowledge and zest for life will live on through them.

The memories of his love, integrity, wisdom and humor live in the hearts of his wife and best friend of 21 years Martha Wilson, stepdaughters Michelle and her husband Milton Hernandez, Jennifer and her husband Jorge Fernandez, his brothers Richard and Wayne, and sisters Mary, Kathleen and Michelle, as well as his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his brother Daniel.
