Miami Lakes sisters are stars on Pace soccer, flag football teams

Sisters Miranda Ferradaz and Jodi Smith both compete in soccer and are stars on Monsignor Edward Pace’s flag football team.

The Miami Lakes residents helped their team for the Miami Lakes United Soccer Club play well at the State Cup Tournament, where Miranda scored four goals in the first game against Plantation.

Against Florida Krush, Miami Lakes defeated the Orlando team, 3-2, with Smith scoring one goal and Ferradaz had two assists.

The Miami Lakes United Soccer Club fell to Pinecrest, 6-2, and was eliminated from the Florida Youth Soccer Association’s Florida State Cup Tournament.

For their stellar performances this season, Ferradaz, 16, and Smith, 15, also were chosen after an exhaustive audition to the State of Florida USA Olympic Soccer Team Development Program.

The two siblings then set their sights on the state flag football championship, winning the district title and defeating Boyd Anderson, 18-7, in the regional semifinal before they fell to Miami Edison, 13-0, in the regional final.

In the district tournament, the Spartans defeated Mater Academy, 32-6, as Smith scored three touchdowns and one had one interception, while Ferradaz scored two touchdowns and one pick.

In the next round, Pace defeated IMater Academy, 44-0. Smith scored two touchdowns and had two interceptions, and her sister recorded two touchdowns and one interception.

The Spartans next opponent Norland, a team they beat twice during the regular season, also fell victim, as Pace won the district title.

Ferradaz and Smithi also are excelling in the classroom; Ferradaz has a 4.23 GPA and Smith has a 3.95 GPA.
