Softball honors for Michelle Murch and Alexis Castroman


St. Thomas University infielder and American High graduate Michelle Murch was selected as the 2018 Sun Conference Softball Champion of Character Award winner. The award was presented at the annual conference awards banquet in Clermont, Florida. 

 Her teammate, Alexis Castroman, also an American High alumni and Miami Lakes resident, was among seven Bobcats to win Sun Conference Softball All-American team honors. 

 An outstanding student who holds a GPA of 4.00, Murch is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Sports Administration after graduating in three years. The Sun Conference's choice for the prestigious LeroyWalker Champions of Character Award in 2017, Murch is the president of SAAC at St. Thomas and is The Sun Conference's representative for the NAIA Association of Student-Athletes.

 A tireless worker with the goal of improving the overall student-athlete experience in the NAIA, The Sun Conference and at St. Thomas University, she is also very active in the community organizing events such as Doubles for Down Syndrome, and SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) Awareness. She has also worked in the community for the Jason Taylor Foundation, the Marlins RBI Program, while helping youth at Glades Middle School. 

 Murch and Castroman were among seven Bobcats who also garnered Sun Conference Softball All-Academic team honors. Joining them on the All- Academic team were Brandi Bunker, Alysha Coyle, Dayma Player, Gigi Santos and Emily Santos. The All-Academic team is achieved by maintaining at least a 3.5 GPA after at least two full semesters at a current Sun Conference institution. The seven honorees for the All- Academic team was the most of any school in the conference.
