MDC head basketball coach Susan Summons inducted in Hall of Fame

Blazing the trail for women to play college basketball, Miami Dade College (MDC) head coach Susan Summons was honored, once again, as she was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The recognition marks the sixth time Summons, who’s also a college professor and community relations advocate, has been inducted into a Hall of Fame.

Summons was selected as one of the Trailblazers and Pioneers of the Game in the Women’s Basketball League (WBL).

According to MDC, more than 500 student athletes, who played for Summons during a 32-year tenure at the college, graduated and received her help in transferring to other universities.

According to her bio, Summons is a former Women’s Pro with the WBL New Jersey Gems and New England Gulls.

She is also an acclaimed motivational speaker and founder of the Best of the Rest Stars, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides a basketball training academy for girls and boys.

She also worked with the USA Olympic basketball team on three different occasions, and has been recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America by the Institute for International Sports.

In addition, the Institute named Miami Dade College as an All-American Sportsmanship School.
