The Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee is starting off the new year with three free musical performances downtown, with the relaunch of Main Street Live!

Presented by the Main Street Merchants, The Graham Companies and the Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee, the following artists are in the lineup. They will be set up around the big oak tree during their shows:

--Friday, Jan. 17 The Jackson Bunn Group, 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Jackson Bunn is a longtime resident of Miami Lakes. The group perform instrumental jazz and pop. www.jacksonbunn.com.

--Friday, Feb. 21 Brothers of Others call their music “soulful rock n’ roll.” 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. www.brothersofothers.com.

--Friday, March 21 GLASS BLOCS, New Wave, ‘80s music. 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. www.glassblocs.com.

Felicia Salazar, chair of the Cultural Affairs Committee said such concerts happened on Main Street during the first six months of 2005.

“We want to bring this back,” Salazar said. “We’ll also have an artist set up and painting during the shows. For the March show, we hope the audience will show up in their ‘80s attire.”

She said the concerts are a collaboration of all the groups, including the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce and Miami Lakes Economic Development Committee, that are sponsoring them and that other performers may appear at the events.

“We want to help the merchants and bring people downtown,” she said.

Free parking is available in the lots around Main Street.  There is a curfew in the neighborhood for people younger than 18, who after 8 p.m. must be accompanied by an adult.  A parent or chaperone may supervise three children.
